Our Roots in Growing

Our connection to the plant kingdom started in early childhood, growing up in self-sustaining families who grew and produced their own food. From tending vegetables to nurturing orchards and berry groves, this journey took root in Croatia and flourished even more deeply when I moved to Ireland. Here, on the ancestral land of my partner Gavin, whose family shares a profound passion for traditional and organic agriculture, we’ve blended our skills to create a haven for ourselves and the vibrant biodiversity around us. Plants, animals, and people are all woven together in a harmonious dance, each sharing their own link in this interconnected web.

Why We Save Seeds

A young child in a striped shirt and hat sits on a stone wall, looking out at a grassy landscape. Nearby are a potted plant and a decorative gnome statue holding a Welcome sign.

We’ve saved and shared seeds for years but took it a step further to ensure we do it in a scientifically sound way, producing the most vibrant and resilient seeds for future generations.

Our drive comes from a desire to provide for our children and secure their food and seed sovereignty, especially in a world threatened by big agriculture giants patenting seeds and introducing GMO crops.

To us, this is simply wrong, as no conclusive research exists on the safety of these organisms and their complex impact on the natural world.

Learning and Growing with Seed Saving Movements

Our training began in 2018 with the Gaia Foundation, which provided a quick guide to seed saving and has grown into an ongoing journey of further education and skill-building. We’ve continued to excel in seed saving and have dived deeper into the world of plant breeding through collective trials run by the Gaia Foundation, constantly refining our practices and exploring how to adapt plants to our unique microclimates and community needs.

From there, we went on to train and become Seed Guardians for Irish Seed Savers — a collective dedicated to preserving Irish seed sovereignty and maintaining an incredible collection of heritage Irish apple trees and vegetable varieties. Being part of this movement gives us a deep sense of responsibility and pride, knowing that we’re protecting and holding up the traditions of food and seed sovereignty.

The Seeds We Choose

The plants we save seeds from are our absolute favourite — varieties that are not only resilient, fuss-free, and easy to manage, but also bursting with flavour and exceptional for storing. Many of these are heirlooms that have stood the test of time across Europe or have naturally adapted to our unique microclimate. We choose hardy, early-maturing, weather-resistant plants that are practical for busy families and reliable for anyone seeking to grow nutritious food.

The marvel of nurturing a plant from seed to seed is a deeply heart-opening and grounding experience — an act that opens much more than food and seed sovereignty. It is a profound act of resilience, connecting us and tying us into the natural world, integrating the knowing and messages from the plant kingdom.

It’s a reminder that we are part of something greater — an ever-evolving dance between humans and the living earth.

Sharing and Community

Our catalogue is expanding each year as we regenerate and bulk up our most sought-after crops, ensuring they’re available to the wider public. Equally important to us is fostering community, organising seed and plant swaps locally and participating in swap events across Ireland.

Sharing seeds is sharing life, and we’re grateful to be part of this growing movement of passionate growers and guardians.

Thank you for being part of our journey.
Together, we sow the seeds of a more sustainable, harmonious world.

Support Our Community Seed-Saving Work

Dear customer, we have moved our sale of seeds to in-person only via The Rock Ballymacavany Seed Library, a new cross-border community initiative dedicated to preserving Ireland’s collection of heritage and landrace vegetable, fruit, herb, flower, and medicinal plant seeds.

Based in the Termon Complex, Pettigo, and open to the public on a donation basis, our seed library aims to strengthen seed sovereignty, biodiversity, and local resilience throughout communities on both sides of the border.

By making a donation, you help us:

– Safeguard rare and traditional seed varieties

– Grow and collect locally adapted, climate-resilient seeds

– Provide free or donation-based access to the public

– Offer education, workshops, and community growing support

– Build a long-term resource for future generations

Every donation—big or small—directly fuels the work of keeping seeds in the hands of the community.
Together, we can grow resilience, preserve heritage, and cultivate a thriving future.
